Lloyd Kane – MD of Rickshaw Travel
Lloyd says that he joined Rickshaw Travel in 2011 because they “dared to be different and stood out in a very congested travel market – we believe in our purpose as a meaningful travel company and a great place to work, where we put our people first and it is this approach that puts’s a smile on my face… most of the time“.
Rickshaw tailor make extraordinary holidays for people who want more than a nice view but who want a chance to make genuine connections and experience the world differently.
Based in Brighton, Rickshaw were immediately and pretty ferociously impacted by the pandemic and the locations that they travel too were even more impacted – Asia, Southeast Asia, Central America, North and South America.
Lloyd had faced incredible challenges due to Covid, along with a handful of other sectors travel faced an immediate stop with lockdown but unlike others there has been very limited scope for partial re-opening.
Lloyd has said that he reached a point where the plan changed every day and even got beyond a point where planning had any point.
In that time Lloyd has furloughed, moved office twice, kept his co-investors on side and reluctantly had to let some team members go. Throughout this battering Lloyd has somehow managed to keep looking forward, analysing options and opportunities and most of all kept his sense of perspective and humour.
Resilience is a word that sums him up well.
