Phil Green, Director

Phil trained in the accountancy profession but always felt the lure of business. Poached by a client into the Travel Industry in 1985 he then worked in various roles in Banking Finance and the Travel Industry, quickly taking on management roles including General Manager and Director of Finance & Operations. In his final employed role, Directeur Général (MD) of an inbound Japanese Tour Operator based in France, he set up new programmes taking the French to Egypt.

Phil then went back to his roots in setting up an accountancy practice and built it from 1 to 150 clients before merging with marketeers to form an unusual hybrid professional services firm. He then went on to design and deliver training courses, management development programmes and facilitate conferences and away-days for organisations including Lego, Lego Media, Currys, Dixons, BBC World, BBC News, the BBC Leadership team, The Link and Scottish & Newcastle.

In his strategic financial roles Phil has fought the EU on VAT on Tour Operators as part of the European Tour Operators Association, successfully won back over £2m VAT from HMRC, advised a management team on a £1.4m buyout, developed a 5 year strategy for growth for a consultancy client and then as a director helped that client to be at year 5 position within 3 years, prepared and presented plans to secure £2.9m funding for a client and advised on a number of joint venture agreements.

One of Phil’s development projects led to him being asked to join the fledgling Hub 100 ten years ago. Since then Phil has advised over 200 businesses and spent thousands of hours in detailed discussions with entrepreneurial MDs. Knowing what drives those MDs, their fears and their downright bravery in starting and growing businesses inspires Phil to keep the mdhub moving forwards.
