Tell us about your business:
Cognitive Law is a new type of law firm which combines modern thinking with traditional values. Our team are fully mobile, work in an aspirational manner and are backed by technology and support in order to provide business focused legal services to all clients. Our consultants specialise in a range of sectors including company commercial, recruitment dispute resolution, debt recovery, and matrimonial. However, we are always looking to expand our team of Consultant Solicitors across all sectors of commercial legal expertise.

The beginning - your ‘eureka’ moment:
I had always worked in a traditional law firm, when I was approached by my now business partner, who ran the idea past me of starting an ABS law firm. He had a vision of a law firm that engaged Consultant Solicitors on a fee-share basis, allowing them to be free of the restraints of private practice. It seemed like the perfect idea to me as it allows to me to have a flexible work schedule, which gives me the opportunity to spend more time with my family without compromising my professional skills.

The best and the worst of times:
It was a great feeling to get our first Consultant Solicitor on board. That was the moment that I realised, this is really going to happen! The worst of times were before I took on my assistant. I was trying to juggle running every aspect of the business and getting exhausted. But luckily, everything is going in the right direction and things are looking bright for Cognitive’s future!

What gets you out of bed in the morning - what motivates you?:
The want and need to give our clients the best legal support possible. Without them, we wouldn’t be working. I also love offering an alternative working model to lawyers. For too long, lawyers have been restricted by traditional practice models. At Cognitive Law, we set our Consultant Solicitors free.

Luck or skill - what gets your further?:
It’s always great to have luck on your side, but if you have the right skills, you won’t need any luck! In all honesty though, I think I’ve had both.

Define ‘entrepreneur’:
An individual who decides to take matters into their own hands. If you think you can do something better than someone else, do it.

Moving on up - your ambitions and the next big thing:
Our ambition is to continue to grow and take on more Consultant Solicitors.

Your top tips:
When things seem tough, never give up. Always push through, no matter how much you think that it will never get better. If you have enough belief and perseverance, you can achieve anything.

What others say about you and your business:
Cognitive provides efficient, first class service from start to finish.
