Tell us about you:
I’m a lively & enthusiastic individual who enjoys people, business, the new, the odd and the different: I enjoy working in creative, innovating and dynamic environments where making a difference really matters. Fortunate to have lived and worked in America and the Pacific region, I enjoyed some remarkable experiences and acquired stories worth sharing. I’m a bit of an adrenalin junky, loving the thrill of challenging stunts: jumping out of aeroplanes (skydiving), walking bare foot across burning coals and speed boat racing.
The beginning - your ‘eureka’ moment:
My ‘eureka’ moment was 8th April 2012, not long after I was made redundant from Business Link, (where I enjoyed eight fabulous years, I might add, working with local businesses). I was pondering the next step in my career. Fiona Shafer being Fiona, challenged me and popped the question, “I wish!” to re-launch myself as an independent adviser and facilitate for the MDHUB. Having known the team for several years, the opportunity to work alongside this unique and outstanding organisation was enough for me to take on the ‘Fiona challenge’
The best and the worst of times:
The best and the worst of times were all in that eureka moment to start a new business. Seriously, the worst time is overcoming the sense of isolation that comes with working on your own and the self-reassurance to plan for success in a challenging environment. The very best times more than compensate for the worst times... listening and empathising to the experiences, aspirations and achievements of entrepreneurs attending the Hub work groups. The talent of the Hub members is awe inspiring.
What gets you out of bed in the morning - what motivates you?
I love waking up in the morning, looking forward to the day ahead. Wondering what new experiences I might encounter, the new opportunities I’ll discover and the adventure of the people I’m going to meet. The best motivation of the day is being able to contribute something worthwhile.
Luck or skill - what gets your further?
What gets me further is a mix of luck, judgement, conviction and skill. I do work to a plan which I use to measure and evaluate my progress towards achieving my goals. My best achievements have materialised through curiosity, the unexpected, intuition and the desire to explore new possibilities. In today’s climate I would say that skill, focus & drive have become important to achieving my goals.
For me an Entrepreneur takes on many guises. A creator of wealth, turning dreams into a commercial success. Heroic, visionary, creative and commercially savvy. Prepared to take a risk and able to perform in a crisis. An Entrepreneur may also be defined as a leader who adopts the latest thinking, turns emerging trends into a commercial opportunity and is able to influence and inspire people to travel the road with them, “achieving what many only aspire to achieve”.
Moving on up - your ambitions and the next big thing:
My ambition is quite simple, to improve on doing what I’m already doing, helping businesses achieve ‘outstanding excellence’, with purpose, gratification and financial reward. Business owners are seeing the value their customers derive from them becoming knowledge leaders in their field, having the foresight to see beyond the fast changing environment and aspiring to doing things that give purpose and is reflective of their values and integrity.
Your top tips:
Plan for success. Do things differently. Get your business to stand out. Be a specialist, not a generalist. Embrace change. Take calculated risks. Evaluate & measure returns on investment. Know your markets and understand your most profitable customers. Research any new ideas and analyse any failures. Listen and learn, work SMART and think positive, it really does make a difference.

Dominic Simpson, Good Egg Design Management “Kerry Kyriacou has worked with us on sales and marketing plans for our business over the past year. His expertise and knowledge of business is invaluable, as is his strategic thinking, integrity and good old-fashioned common sense. We wouldn't have travelled nearly as far without his guidance.
