MDHUB member Temple Group acquisition.
The Ecology Consultancy is a well-established, respected and profitable business which is one of the largest leading ecology consultancies in the UK.
Mark Southwood, Managing Director of Temple Group, and John Newton, Managing Director of The Ecology Consultancy have built a very close and strong working relationship through successful joint delivery and collaboration over the last 15 years which started with the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in the late 1990’s. Recent examples of joint working include TFL projects, HS2 and some sustainability programmes. This acquisition is a logical step building on the shared values and in developing the relationship further to the benefit of clients and staff.
This acquisition brings together two of the strongest and fastest growing independent environmental consultants in the UK. It will expand the breadth of services within Temple’s core competency of Environmental Impact Assessments, as well as extend its environment, planning and sustainability offer. Both companies will benefit from the sharing of new and existing clients, access into new sectors, and a wider geographical reach. More integrated working will ensure more efficient delivery and further value will be added through greater insight and joint briefing/training/shared learning programmes.
The Ecology Consultancy will continue to be managed and led by John Newton and it will keep its separate market-leading brand and identity.
Mark Southwood said, "It's a win-win for clients and staff. Bringing these two great teams together will further enhance Temple’s reputation as a top-tier leader in the environment, planning and sustainability arena. We have listened to our clients and this move responds to their needs and the growing demand we are experiencing for these services, particularly in the development sector and in relation to major infrastructure projects. The opportunities for staff in terms of new clients and exciting projects will be substantial and our shared vision and commitment to innovation and best practice will benefit both clients and staff.
John Newton said, “For The Ecology Consultancy this is an important stage in our evolution and, from a position of financial strength, we can confidently build our next chapter. This deal offers real opportunity to the senior staff team to help shape the business strategy so as to realise the Temple advantage in full and continue to succeed in the environmental market. Temple Group brings project management skills and a specialist capability in Environmental Impact Assessments and planning, whilst we will strengthen biodiversity in their sustainability offering.”
